Barbara’s Trip to Sendai
Thank you for your prayers for me last weekend. It was a rewarding time!
(I have decided the overnight bus is not my favorite form of travel. Despite erratic sleep on the bus, God gave me the energy I needed for two very full days of ministry. Thank you for your prayers!)
Parenting Ministry at Izumi Park Town Church
The parenting ministry is moving forward at Izumi Park Town Church. It was wonderful to reconnect with several of the people I met two years ago and to observe their leadership. One of the highlights was being able to see how the parenting ministry has come full circle.
Ten years ago, Yuko was a participant in a parenting class that met in our home. I first met Yuko when she needed help and encouragement for her troubled marriage. Later she joined the parenting class, which also brought her in contact with the principles of the Bible. In time, she responded to the gospel and made a decision for Christ. Three years ago Yuko, her husband, and their son moved to Sendai, and Yuko became an active member of Izumi Park Town Church.
Last Friday I had the privilege of seeing how the parenting ministry has helped in equipping this church as I observed the growth in Yuko’s life. Watching her lead a small group of mothers in the parenting ministry in Izumi Park Town Church was an amazing contrast to the Yuko I met ten years ago. Praise God!
Operation SAFE
On Saturday, the Operation SAFE Program in Ishinomaki was a special blessing as I saw lives changed even during the course of the day.
Children who have suffered trauma don’t always easily open up and share about their fears. Operation SAFE gives them a safe place to express their feelings, supported by lots of love and acceptance.
We saw one fifth grade girl who came at the beginning of the day with a lot of insecurity dramatically open up during the four hours. She left smiling and openly receiving hugs from the staff. Other children opened up verbally and shared some of their fears and difficulties. I am thankful for the opportunity to have a small part in this ministry.
Love,
Barbara (for Gary, as well)
